Now We Are Six is a book of poetry from the point of view of Christopher Robin, one of the main characters in the Winnie-the-Pooh series. Before the collection of poems there is a short introduction explaining that the following poems were written when Pooh, Christopher Robin et al., were younger and some may not be as good as they are now, now that they are six.

The poems in Now We Are Six are quite silly and amusing, and very convincingly written from a young child's point of view and style. The poems range over a variety of topics, some fictional creations by the writer and some more realistic ones as well. Through these poems, the author (of the poems that is, not A. A. Milne himself) is given slight development and genuinely believable as a young child around the age of six.

Obviously, this book is for children and therefore it was a slight bore for myself, being legally considered an adult (though I sure as heck don't feel like one!). However, that being said, I would definitely consider this a great book to read to younger children, and the pictures are sure to keep them entertained as well.

Overall, Now We Are Six is no outstanding literary achievement, but it is a convincing children's book and demonstrates the talent A. A. Milne possesses while he takes on the persona of a six year old in writing the poems assembled in this work. I award it a 3/5 and recommend it to parents with young children as a introduction to literature.
