As you are no doubt aware, I have an undying love for Nylon Magazine, and in my dreams I am most definitely a Nylon Girl. Therefore, it should be no surprise that I indulged and purchased all three books penned, compiled and edited by the editors of this wondrous magazine.
The first is called Street: The NYLON Book of Global Style. Essentially the book focuses on 7 fashion capitals of the world: London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Paris, New York, Melbourne and Tokyo. The entire premise of the book is photographs of everyday people on the street in what Nylon calls their "street style." In addition to the photographs, first name and age, there are several answers to some questions, such as occupation, what the person is wearing, the best thing about the city, what bands the person listens to, etc. There is also an introduction for each city, describing the lifestyle, the fashion scene, the best boutiques, the scenery, etc.
Overall, there isn't much to say about Street except that I absolutely adored it. The photography was done very well, and every introduction to the city allowed a better mental image and a better ability to place the people in the photographs within my mind's best version of every city. The mini-interviews humanize every individual photograph and make them feel slightly more realistic. I was especially impressed with the diversity in style between cities and each individual, and felt inspired to go out and take photographs of people in the streets. Nylon has an uncanny way of always inspiring me though, so I'm not surprised. :)
I award a 5/5 to Street for gorgeous shots, elegant compilation, spot-on summaries of cities, and simply for being Nylon :)
